Codes and Conventions of Radio Trailers

In the lesson today we listened to examples of radio trailers, and established the codes and conventions of the genre.

Voiceover Recording

Today we recorded the voiceover, which will be placed in appropriate places throughout the documentary.

 

 

We used Mrs.Courtney, (media teacher), because: our target rage is 16-25, and Mrs.Courtney herself fits into this target range. She also has a clear voice which is easy to understand.

Now that we have finished editing our production, we have watched it and decided exactly where voiceover is needed.

Editing

I was in charge of editing the 5 minute extract of the documentary, because Gemma was doing the Newspaper Advertisement and Taylor was doing the Radio Trailer. Over the course of the lessons I took screengrabs to show the process.

Edit Decision List

Now that we have decided what shots we are going to use, we need to put them in the right order! As a group we have completed an edit decision list. This is where we transferred information from the tape log sheets, putting all the footage in the final intended order of your production.

Logging

As a group we have viewed the tapes, and completed the tape log sheets as we watched them. This is where we have listed all of the footage on the tapes in the order which it appears, even if we don't intend to use it in our final production. We have indicated on the sheets which footage is to be used in the final production (by stating yes).

Filming: Re Filming Opening Titles

During the lesson today, we re filmed our opening title sequence as myself and the group as well as Mr Fraser (our teacher) were not happy with it: The framing was incorrect as there was too much space either side of Karlea, and also, the detail on the T-Shirt was unclear, you could not tell what bands/faces/text was on the T-Shirts.

This time, although we kept with the original idea of taking the T-Shirts off, we have decided to film it in extreme close up, so you can only see the main body of the T-Shirt (chest area) - so it is clear to see what is on the T-Shirt. The final T-Shirt to be seen is the one we had printed, which has the title of our documentary on it. Here it is:
